CD44(MRQ-13),MMab

CD44 is a member of the cell adhesion molecule family and is widely expressed in both normal and malignant cells of epithelial, mesothelial and hematopoietic tissues. It has been reported that the expression of specific CD44 splice variants is associated with metastasis in certain human malignancies, such as breast cancer.

Fox SB et al. have described the complex patterns of CD44 variant expression in different tumors in comparison with their expression in corresponding normal tissues. In breast carcinomas of ductal epithelial origin, high-level expression of CD44 variant exons has been observed, whereas CD44 is not expressed in normal mammary ductal epithelium. In contrast many CD44 variants are expressed at low levels in normal gastrointestinal epithelum, and are also expressed at low levels in colorectal carcinomas with variable expression patterns among different variants. In the respiratory tract, CD44 variants are highly expressed in normal epithelial cells, and similar variants are expressed at comparable levels in lung cancer.
